JUNE 7 - THIS IS THAT

Key Scripture:
"Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: 'Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people..."'" - Acts 2:14-17a

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." - Hebrews 13:8

1-HOUR PENTECOST PRAYER GUIDE
Peter's declaration-"This is that"-reveals a profound spiritual principle: What God promised in the past, He fulfils in the present. The Holy Spirit's outpouring on Pentecost wasn't something new but the fulfilment of ancient prophecy. The Greek phrase Peter uses, τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ (touto estin to), emphatically identifies what they were witnessing with what Joel had foretold centuries earlier.
Today, as we gather to pray, we stand in this same prophetic lineage. Pentecost wasn't a one-time historical event but the beginning of an ongoing reality. As Peter declared in Acts 2:39: "The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call."
In Acts 2:33, Peter explains that Jesus, "exalted to the right hand of God... has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear." Jesus continues to pour out His Spirit today from His position of authority at the Father's right hand.
Throughout Acts, we see the pattern: the Spirit falls in Jerusalem (Acts 2), in Samaria (Acts 8), in Caesarea (Acts 10), and in Ephesus (Acts 19). Each outpouring confirms that Pentecost wasn't meant to be a museum piece but a living reality for all generations of believers.
Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." The Jesus who baptised believers in the Holy Spirit in the first century still baptises believers today. The Spirit who empowered the early church still empowers His church now.
As we pray today, let our declaration be "This is that!"-confidently claiming God's ancient promises for our present reality. Let us pray with the expectation that the God who moved powerfully at Pentecost will move powerfully among us today, for His character and promises remain unchanged.
